When the Hennepin County Library was formed in 1922, the Hamel Library was a station to which books were brought by library staff. In 1926, the library moved into the Farmers State Bank and became an official branch of the Hennepin County Library. In 1940, the library moved to a standalone building on D.J. Roy's property. Roy's wife had been the librarian since the late 1920s. The library was again converted to a station without permanent library staff in 1967. The former library building was later converted into a museum and is still extant.
