Description of Contents
The collection includes over 200 black-and-white photographs taken by John H. Kammerdiener of buildings and locations in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities. The bulk of the photographs are building exteriors. Original photographs consist of print photographs and sheet negatives on safety film. The best point of access to the photographs is the Hennepin County Library Digital Collections, where photos are identified by subject, date, and location.

John H. Kammerdiener (1891-1980) was a Minneapolis commercial photographer who specialized in photographs of buildings and houses. Including his work for realtors and other businesses, many of his photographs appeared in Minneapolis newspapers. Hundreds of examples of his house photographs can also be viewed in the Hennepin History Museum Collection in the Hennepin County Library Digital Collections.

Language of Materials
Photographs are arranged by format, then by identifier number. These numbers, which all begin with "K," were assigned by library staff in the 1980s or 1990s. The numbers are not consecutive, and many numbers do not exist. These numbers are used to identify each photograph in the Hennepin County Library Digital Collections.
This collection was donated by photograph collector Harold Vanderwater in 1984.
