Description of Contents

This collection includes research materials on a variety of local locations and topics. Specific topics include Cedar Riverside, Lake Harriet, Minnesota fairs (including King’s Fair), William S. King, St. Anthony Falls, River Place, Security Deere, Preservation Matters, Lindsay Warehouse, Freight Station, 9th St. S Historic District, Warehouse District, and the Minneapolis Post Office Main Station. The collection also contains general research on local architecture, railroads, movie theaters, storefronts, bridges, and neighborhoods. Materials include articles, maps, National Register nomination forms, timelines, photographs, and evaluations of buildings and sites. The materials are drawn primarily from the collections of the Hennepin County Library, the Minnesota Historical Society and the National Archives.

History

Historical Research, Inc. was established by Norene Roberts in 1979. Dr. Roberts earned her PhD in American Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1978. She was also employed by the Minnesota Historical Society as an architectural historian.

Historical Research Incorporated did many local research projects, including research done for the new Federal Reserve Building (see M/A 0221). Historical Research Incorporated continued to exist until 1995 when Dr. Roberts moved to Massachusetts.
