Biography
Alice Berg was born December 23, 1907, to Louis and Sena Berg. The fourth of seven children, Alice graduated from South High School in Minneapolis in 1927. In 1930, she completed the nursing program at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital. Alice Berg married George William Johnson in 1936. Alice Johnson worked with the Red Cross during World War II. She died in 1985.
Lutheran Deaconess Hospital was founded in 1888 at 2731 Hennepin Avenue. The hospital moved to 1412 24th St. E by the early 1900s. Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing was established in 1916. Students completed a three-year course, after which they could take the exam to become a registered nurse. In 1973, Lutheran Deaconess Hospital merged with Fairview Hospital, eventually taking the Fairview name. The School of Nursing closed in 1987.

Separated Materials
Two copies of The Deac yearbook from 1930 were added to the Hennepin County Yearbook Collection. One copy includes inscriptions to Alice Berg.
