History

Founded in 1939 as the Minneapolis Bird Club, the Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis educates and advocates about birds and the natural environment. The Minneapolis Bird Club was one of several science clubs founded at the Minneapolis Public Library in 1939. In 1949, the club became a branch of the National Audubon Society. The club changed its name to the Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis in 1975. The group has taught classes, hosted birding field trips, worked on conservation efforts, and participated in the National Audubon Christmas Bird Count.
