This collection contains building information, newspaper clippings, correspondence, plans, maps, and other administrative records documenting the history of Dayton Library from 1961 to 1993. The bulk of which is fromt he 1970s.

The collection is available for use in Special Collections at Minneapolis Central Library during the department's open hours.
The Dayton Reading Center was opened in the community center in 1968. It also operated a bookmoblie in Dayton. The building conditions deteriorated in the 1970s and resulted in the libary board voting to close the branch. The Dayton libary was closed and relocated to the Rogers Library in 1978.

Portions of this collection (accession 2018.16) were previously managed by Hennepin County Library Officially Withdrawn, an organization for retired and former staff of Hennepin County Library and Minneapolis Public Library.

This collection contains materials transferred to the archives by Hennepin County Library administration in 2017 as accession 2018.38 and in 2018 as accession 2018.16.
