Hennepin County Staff Newsletters
Description of Contents
This collection contains staff newsletters of the Hennepin County Library ranging from 1948-2007. Titles include Branch Newsletter (1960-1963), The County Line (1948-1962), Staff Newsletter (1964-2004), and Weekly Reader (2005-2007). These publications contain information on staff appointments, staff transfers, staff retirements, library events, local events, and information needed for daily work in the library. In 2005, the newsletters changed formats, from paper to electronic. The Feedback series (1974-1991), is a publication for youth services employees containing information for and about youth services in the Hennepin County Libraries.
The Volunteers of the Library’s newsletter, titled Volumes (1988-1995), contains information for and about volunteers within the system, including the Friends of the Library. These publications announce volunteer opportunities, new and retiring volunteers, news, library and local events, and information to support the volunteers’ work.
Missing eras of the Staff Newsletter are 1966-1974. The County Line is missing years 1950-1953 and 1961 and 1962.

History
Hennepin County Library (HCL) was established in 1922 to provide services to suburban and rural areas of the county outside the City of Minneapolis. The library began as a bookmobile delivering books to homes, schools, and community centers. Through years of expansion and a 2008 merger with the Minneapolis Public Library, the system now has 41 library locations.
To support the employees at HCL, newsletters were utilized to convey pertinent information. The first newsletter was titled The County Line. Further renditions were titled Branch Newsletter, Staff Newsletter and Weekly Reader. The Feedback Newsletter was created and distributed to the staff who were working with youth services at HCL. The Volumes Newsletter was created in 1988 for the volunteers and Friends of the Library organization.

This collection contains materials transferred to the archives by Hennepin County Library administration in 2017 as accession 2018.38, in June 2018 as accession 2018.16, and in September 2019 as accession 2019.38.
