Minnesota League of Building, Loan and Savings Associations Scrapbooks
Description of Contents
The collection consists of 7 boxes containing annual scrapbooks (some bound, some unbound) prepared by the Minnesota League of Building, Loan, and Savings Associations. Many are credited to Dolly Crary Mudd (or Mrs. D. E. Crary Mudd), the association's secretary/treasurer at the time. Artwork for at least one volume attributed to Booker Boese of St. Cloud, MN (found in scrapbook article from St. Cloud Times, Jan 11, 1936 (box 2)).
The scrapbooks contain newspaper, magazine and newsletter articles on the association and the banking industry as well as some photographs, drawings, and other illustrations. Several include certificates or awards from the national association.

History
The Minnesota League of Building, Loan, and Savings Associations was an affiliate of the United States Building and Loan League, a advocacy group formed in 1893. The group's original mission was to promote home ownership through local thrift banking institutions. During the Great Depression, the league became an advocate for deposit insurance and other consumer banking protections.
What was the United States Building and Loan League underwent numerous name changes and mergers with other similar groups throughout the 20th and early 21st century. In 2007, the group's successor organization called America's Community Bankers merged with another large banking advocacy group called the American Bankers Association.
