Over 190,0000 photographs of Minnesota events, locations, and people taken or compiled by the Star Tribune newspaper. The bulk of the photographs were taken between the 1950s and 1990s, though some earlier images are included. Most images are black and white photoprints. Some images include dates, names, or other details written on the back.

The collection includes photographs taken by Star Tribune staff photographers, as well as photographs from other sources that depict Hennepin County locations or residents. Not all photographs taken, nor all photographs that appeared in the newspaper, are included in the collection.

Photographs are described in this finding aid by the single subject label assigned by Star Tribune staff and by a number assigned by Special Collections staff (beginning with "S"). Photographs may depict locations, people, or topics beyond the subject assigned by the newspaper.
